Former N.D. Gov. Schafer to keynote Rapid City Bakken conference

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Former North Dakota Gov. Ed Schafer will be the keynote speaker Dec. 11 at a conference in Rapid City, SD, to explore the Bakken oil boom and business opportunities it presents for West River small businesses.

Schafer was elected governor of North Dakota in 1992 and was re-elected in 1996. He also served in 2008 as the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture under President George W. Bush.

He presently serves on the Board of Directors of Oklahoma-based Continental Resources Inc., one of the largest and most active oil exploration and production companies doing business in North Dakota. He has described himself as a longtime champion of North Dakota’s oil industry.

Schafer will speak at 8 a.m. Dec. 11, at the conference, called “Opportunities in the Bakken & West River Expansion.” The day-long summit will begin at 8:00 a.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn, at 815 E. Mall Drive, Rapid City, SD.

Speakers will explore the rapid development and business opportunities in the sprawling Bakken Formation in western North Dakota and neighboring area. The conference will be sponsored by Hegg Companies Inc. of Sioux Falls and the Law Bulletin Publishing Company of Chicago.

Schafer is expected to offer his unique perspective on topics including the projected duration of oil exploration and production activities in North Dakota.

“We’re pleased and honored that Governor Schaefer has decided to keynote our event,” says Paul Hegg, President and CEO of the Hegg Companies.

“This will be the first time this distinguished business and political leader has spoken at a Bakken event in South Dakota, a state in which he has a lot of friends”, Hegg says.

“We look forward to hearing his unique insights on how West River entrepreneurs and other business people can take advantages of the rare commercial opportunities being created by the Bakken oil boom region,” he says.

To register for the conference, go to www.bakkenseminar.com. The cost is $129. The walk-in rate on conference day will be $199.
